Saint Junkie
Seminarian Matthew at his blog, http://acatholiclife.blogspot.com/ had a post where you could ask for a Saint to choose you. I wrote in and he wrote back and the Patron Saint of my blog will be...
REDEMPTORIST, ST. GERARD MAJELLA!
This makes me very happy. I prayed to this Saint during my 4th pregnancy. This prayer to him is posted above my kitchen sink. I am glad he wants to continue the journey with me.
PRAYER FOR YOUR FAMILY -
O glorious St. Gerard, entrusted by God with the special protection of mothers and their children, I confidently invoke thy powerful intercession for myself and my family, strengthen us to carry our daily cross, fly to our aid in every danger to soul and body, gladden our home with the blessings of Divine Peace, and grant that by the faithful practice of our Holy Religion in this world, we may all merit to be reunited around God's Throne in Heaven for ever and ever. Amen.
"Consider the shortness of time, the length of eternity and reflect how everything here below comes to an end and passes by. Of what use is it to lean upon that which cannot give support?"
~Saint Gerard Majella
"Who except God can give you peace? Has the world ever been able to satisfy the heart?"
~Saint Gerard Majella
Saint Gerard Majella is also listed as a Patron for the Pro-Life movement, intercede dear saint for a respect for LIFE. He is also invoked by Gardeners....which I hope to be one day!
We are a family of Saint Junkies. For the last 3 years every New Years we pick a Saint's name from a basket, asking God to direct our hand to the Saint who wants to work in our life and teach us that year. It is said that the Saint chooses you. (We get our Saints list from http://www.childrenofmedjugorje.com/) Each slip of paper lists the Saint, a quote of theirs and a need they wish you to pray for that year. ALL the saints have been very meaningful to each of us.
My first was St. Peter Julien Eymard - who is all about Eucharistic Adoration!
My second was St. Maximillan Kolbe - devoted to Marian consecration!
This year it is St. Faustina - the Divine Mercy chaplet.
As Sts. Kolbe and Faustina are both Polish...and as our homeschool support group attends a Polish church (of a polish Saint that beloved JPII was devoted to) under the spiritual direction of a Polish Priest....I take that Heaven must want this Irish-Italian girl to be an adopted Pole!
