Putting shoes on the Gospel
Recently, I have been blessed and moved by the example of a friend. God provides me with so many good examples, actually...it's time I take notice! Daily, my spouse shows me how he practices temperance, sacrifice and the mortification of his will in his service to us and others. I am lucky to know Priests who show me these virtues as well. Those examples should have been enough, but God sent another. And this friend is a mom like me…
Together we experienced a hurtful situation, more so for her. In watching her response…tears followed by forgiveness, I am reminded of the saying that “you may be the only bible someone ever reads”. She put shoes on the gospel. She walked her talk. My hurt made me angry. Her hurt made her reach out, as she had done over and over before. How can she keep turning the other cheek?! Why would she serve those who treat her so poorly?
Jesus did.
Perhaps it was the best defense? It proved the accusations aimed were unfounded . She was/is love.
Days later now, I am still reminded and lifted by her actions. Yes, God does always bring something beautiful out of something ugly. Thank you, Lord. It’s one of those rare occasions where I need to thank someone for letting me SEE Jesus. She proves it can be done, and I pray to “grow up” to be just like her!
Great blog..
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteThank you for asking to take part in the 2007 Saint for the Year Devotion. I pray that through this devotion, all participants ultimately grow closer to God. I sincerely apologize for the delay in my response. The woman who is kindly drawing the saints had a death in the family. Again, my apologies for the delay.
